Netzcope is a software application for analyzing and visualizing network community structures. For example, Netzcope can decompose an FP network into connected components. The network is represented as a bipartite graph of organizations and projects. A window of the Netzcope tool shows the decomposition of the FP2 network into 44 distinct connected components. Typical of the FP networks, almost all of the nodes are in the main component, where most analyses will be focused.
Netzcope can show the structure of a network by visualizing its adjacency matrix. As an example, consider the organizations projection of the FP2 network. When there are many nodes, as with this network, limits on image resolution can exclude a precise display of the entire matrix. Netzcope allows us to closely examine regions of interest in the adjacency matrix. By reordering the network nodes, such as by spectral methods, different aspects of the network, e.g., community structure, can be revealed.
